In 2010 complaints increased by 56% to 34.674 files as the economic crisis continues to feature prominently in the letters from citizens. On 6 April, 'el Defensor del Pueblo' submitted their official annual report to the Presidents of the Spanish Congress and Senate.

The Office of the ombudsman committed itself to engage senior secondary school students. This was to acquaint them with the Ombudsman as well as to answer questions on the role of the Ombudsman in national development. Ombudswoman Eusalyn Lewis, thus, visited various schools. 

Following the successful first I.O.I. edition of the "Sharpening Your Teeth"-Training that was attended by 38 participants from 17 different states, the I.O.I. has organised a second SYT training which will be held from 5 to 8 June 2011 at the I.O.I. General Secretariat in Vienna, Austria.

The I.O.I. has been invited to participate at the 24^th General Meeting of the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights (ICC) in May 2011 and was represented by I.O.I. Secretary General Dr. Peter Kostelka.

Meeting on 19-20.5.2001, the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights chose Deputy-Ombudsman Maija Sakslin for a seat on the Agency's Executive Board.

Deputy-Ombudsman Jussi Pajuoja has urged the Parish of Ylivieska to take account of the Ecclesiastical Act and fundamental rights when it is drafting job advertisements.

In order to further promote integrity awareness among secondary students and foster teenagers’ honesty and righteousness, the Commission against Corruption of Macao (CCAC) co-organized the “Integrity Week” with two Secondary Schools in March. In addition, this year the CCAC launched a seminar entitled “A Talk on Integrity for Secondary School Graduates” to provide practical guidelines on integrity for secondary school graduates.
