Following an investigation by the Ombudsman, the Ministry of Health reimbursed a Saskatchewan for the operation of his brain tumour in another country.

The Ombudsman received nearly 4,100 complaints last year. In addition, he launched over 60 investigations on his own initiative. Most complaints concerned the police, social welfare and health care, and prisons.

In a document entitled "Developing and Optimising the Role of the Ombudsman", Ombudswoman Emily O'Reilly makes four specific proposals which will allow her Office to maximise its contribution to governmental reform. The suggestions concern i.a. the constitutional status of the Ombudsman Office.

Phil Clarke was appointed Queensland Ombudsman in December 2010. Mr Clarke brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a career in the public sector that spans more than 25 years.

In the 2010 Annual Report, the City of Toronto Ombudswoman emphasized the importance of systemic investigations untertaken by the office.

In his press release of 2 February 2011, the Commissioner for Human Rights gives a statement on family reunions which are becoming more and more difficult for immigrants in Europe.

On 2 February 2011, the Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan  announced his resignation. He has accepted the post of Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia.

EU MIDIS is the first European Union-wide survey to ask immigrant and ethnic minority groups about their experiences of discrimination and criminal victimisation in everyday life. The EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) published its first report on multiple discrimination today.
