In a new report published on 12 January 2011, Parliamentary Ombudsman Ann Abraham criticises three government agencies for collectively failing to put things right when a data sharing mistake led to a woman’s personal and financial information being wrongfully disclosed to her former partner and her child support payments being reduced without her knowledge.

An active member of the military complained to the Ombudsman regarding the fact that he had made a request to the military unit where he was employed, requiring the concluding of the leasing contract for the apartment that had been assigned to him, but had not received any response by the date on which he turned to the Ombudsman.

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin announced an investigation into whether the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Ministry of Transportation are ensuring that adequate measures are in place to protect the public amidst serious concerns raised about non-emergency medical transportation services.

On 11 January 2011 Ms Suzanne Belson, one of the founding members of the Canadian Forum of Ombudsman (FCO), and Mr Steve Olive, Administrator of the FCO visited the I.O.I. General Secretariat.

The survey of complainants’ views compares the survey returns of people who received a decision from the SPSO in the first quarter of this financial year with those who received a decision in the first quarter of last year. 

The Chancellor of Justice carried out a planned inspection to the psychiatric department of the Narva Hospital Foundation. Additionally follow-up to the suggestions made on the basis of last visit on 28 November 2007 was conducted.
