Although legally entitled to be granted a familiy pension, the Accountant General Sindh denied a woman of this provision. The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh could resolve the problem.

The 39^th Annual Report of the Office of the Correctional Investigator was recently tabled in Parliament. In releasing his report, the Correctional Investigator of Canada, Mr. Howard Sapers, called attention to the dramatic increase in the number and prevalence of serious self-injury incidents in federal prisons.

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin recently called on the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services to take concrete action to support police officers across the province who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, risk of suicide and other forms of operational stress injuries.

The Ombudsman for more effective assistance of social reintegration of released prisoners. Assisting the social reintegration of prisoners who have served their sentence requires an active attitude and expenditures both from the state and the society. Considering this, the state can not rely solely on the voluntary activity of civil organizations.

The City of Toronto’s Ombudsman has found problems with the process used to recruit and select board members for the City’s agencies, boards and commissions. “These agencies have a considerable impact on residents’ lives,” says Fiona Crean, “so Torontonians must be assured board members are selected in a fair and open process.”

Graham Fraser, Commissioner of Official Languages recently announced the release of this year’s annual report, focusing on linguistic duality as an invaluable asset for all English- and French- speaking Canadians.

The Board carefully considered all of the suggested amendments and ideas put forward by IOI members in the final phase of consultation in September 2012. We are grateful to all those who took the time to provide us with such a rich menu of comments.

This issue reflects on the outcomes of some important meetings, such as the AOMA meeting with the African Union Commission held in Luanda, the East Africa Regional Meeting held in Dar-es-Salaam, the AORC Board Meetings held in Durban and Windhoek, and the AOMA EXCO Meeting held in Windhoek.
