Azerbaijan | The Milli Mejlis adopted annual report of Ombudsman

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova presented the annual report for 2017 to the Country Parliament on April 24.

The 2017 Annual Report was prepared on the basis of appeals, petitions, proposals and complaints; different cases, problems and challenges disclosed during the visits of the Commissioner and staff members of the Office to the penitentiaries, investigatory isolators, temporary detention places, military units, orphanages, settlements of the refugees and internally displaced persons, healthcare and social protection facilities, meetings with the population in regions and investigations carried out there; as well as official responses and attitudes of state agencies and authorities.

The Annual Report reflected the Commissioner’s activity for the restoration of human rights and freedoms provided by the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and treaties to which Azerbaijan is a party, violated by the state, local self-governing bodies and officials, the protection of rights of various population groups, the prevention of violation of human rights and freedoms, the outcomes of legal awareness and scientific analytical work, international relations, as well as proposals and recommendations aimed at the improvement of the regulatory and legal framework in the field of human rights.

The Parliament decided to take into consideration the proposals and recommendations put forward by the Commissioner.
