Albania | People’s Advocate issues special reports on migration and on children's rights

The Office of the People’s Advocate issued the English versions of two special reports. The first one focuses on the rights of children living in residential institutions and children’s homes; the second one investigates the role of the People’s Advocate with respect to migration issues.

Dealing with children and, in particular, children lacking parental care, is a very sensitive issue. In a special report the Office of the People’s Advocate deals with facilities of alternative care institutions where children grow up and reports on findings of cases of physical and psychological violence against children living in these institutions. In the foreword of the report Ombudsman Totzani clearly states that: “We will continue to monitor all public institutions where children are cared for on a daily basis; not only with the aim to assess the level of respect for the rights of children living in such institutions, but also to prevent violations of these rights and to improve the living standards.”

The second special report focuses on the role of the People’s Advocate with respect to migration issues. The ongoing migration waves have set Europe before a historic crossroad and values such as solidarity or humanity are undergoing serious challenges.
