IOI | Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with FCO

Over the last years the IOI has sought to strengthen its cooperation with regional Ombudsman networks and associations to make use of these synergies.

Guided by the will to establish a mutually advantageous and cooperative relationship, IOI President Peter Tyndall and FCO President Nora Farrell signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the two organisations on the occasion of the Biennial Conference of the Forum of Canadian Ombudsman, which was held in Ottawa, Ontario from 15 – 17 May 2017.

By signing this MoU, both institutions recognise that they share similar objectives such as strengthening the concept of ombudsmanship and stressed their willingness to foster the exchange of information and expertise and to facilitate participation in conferences, study visits and training workshops.

IOI President Peter Tyndall emphasised the high value of this agreement and expressed his deep hope that members from both organisations will mutually benefit from this cooperation.

As one of the speaker of the FCO Biennial Conference, President Tyndall spoke on the topic of "Evolving Role of the Ombudsman, New Responsibilities, New Opportunities, New Challenges”.

President Tyndall also paid a visit to the Toronto Office of Ontario Ombudsman and new North American President Paul Dubé, where he addressed the staff on the role of the IOI and discussed collaboration in the development of the planned best practice paper on own initiative investigations.
