The Ombudsperson British Columbia (BC) released the final investigative update to his office’s 2017 report Misfire: The 2012 Ministry of Health Employment Terminations and Related Matters. The update concludes that all of the report’s 41 recommendations to the provincial government are now implemented.

2017-10-31Ontario Ombudsman and International Ombudsman Institute co-host training session in Ontario
From Oct. 23 – Oct. 25, 2017, the Ontario Ombudsman’s Office presented three one-day workshops on managing unreasonable complainant conduct for its staff and participants from other North American oversight offices. Presented by Donald Sword of the New South Wales Ombudsman, the sessions focused on techniques and strategies for mitigating challenging complainant behaviour and mediating issues arising from that behaviour.

2025-07-03Ombudspersons Luisser, Schwarz and Achitz take up their work
On 1 July 2025, the new Board of the Austrian Ombudsman institution was sworn in by the President of the Republic, Alexander Van der Bellen. As of 1 July, the Austrian Ombudsman Board consists of Mr. Christoph Luisser, Ms. Gaby Schwarz and Mr. Bernhard Achitz. Ombudsperson Luisser will hold the institution’s chair for the next twelve months.

The Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman (the Office) has produced three annual reports: Commonwealth Ombudsman Annual Report 2016–17, ACT Ombudsman Annual Report 2016–17 and the ACT Judicial Council Annual Report 2016–17 (not published online). This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman. While it was an occasion to reflect on its many achievements of the past 40 years, the Office looks with excitement to the future.
