Defensoría reporta ante la CIDH las protestas en rechazo a la minería
Una reunión con miembros de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos en Washington D.C sostuvo una delegación de la Defensoría del Pueblo a fin de dar a conocer las posibles vulneraciones a los derechos humanos y la situación actual de las protestas sociales en Panamá, luego del fallo de la Corte Suprema de Justicia al declarar inconstitucional la Ley 406 sobre el contrato minero.

Civil Aviation Authority’s decision-making on New Zealand Sign Language in airline safety briefing videos unreasonable
The Chief Ombudsman has found that the Civil Aviation Authority’s decision-making processes were unreasonable when it decided not to amend the rules to include New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) in airline safety briefing videos. Peter Boshier began investigating after receiving a complaint from Deaf Action NZ about the response the CAA gave to its 2018 petition, calling for NZSL to be included.

Tranquilisers instead of individual support: even such cases are encountered during the Defender’s visits to residential facilities for people with disabilities
The stories of two men with mental disabilities, recorded by employees of the Defender’s Office during their visits, illustrate a phenomenon, which has mostly been overlooked so far: some people with mental disabilities, especially those with challenging behaviour, receive high doses of tranquilisers. According to the Deputy Defender, this practice has to change. Behaviour is often the only possible form of communication for people who cannot otherwise make contact with others. It is therefore necessary that the latter understand the unmet needs behind the patient’s challenging behaviour and be able to respond accordingly. Tranquillisers must not be the first, let alone the only and permanent “solution”.

El panel “Violencia y Acoso en la Participación Política de la Mujer en América Latina”, mostró una mirada reflexiva sobre los grandes retos para lograr los cambios significativos que requieren las sociedades.

Règlement européen sur l’intelligence artificielle : la Défenseure des droits appelle à la nécessaire prise en compte des droits fondamentaux et du principe de non-discrimination
En avril 2021, la Commission européenne a publié une proposition de règlement sur l’intelligence artificielle (IA). Depuis, le Défenseur des droits et la Commission nationale consultative des droits de l’Homme ont respectivement apporté leurs contributions. Tous deux plaident pour la prise en compte des droits fondamentaux et du droit de la non-discrimination dans le cadre juridique en cours de négociation.

El Defensor del Pueblo andaluz cumplió, el 1 de diciembre de 2023, 40 años como “voz de los sin voz” y su titular, Jesús Maeztu, llamó a la ciudadanía a “no asumir como normal lo inaceptable” como respuesta ante la pérdida o retroceso en el disfrute de los derechos sociales.
