Annual Report highlights a pleasing year
Public sector agencies are increasingly making use of advice and resources from the Ombudsman. In the Chief Ombudsman’s latest Annual Report, contacts for advice increased by 29%, while more use was being made of guidance material, including the 23 new or updated guides that were published in the 2018/19 year.

Appointment of Acting Chief Ombudsman Richard Pagen
The Ombudsman Commission welcomes the appointment of Ombudsman Richard Pagen as the Acting Chief Ombudsman. He fills the position left vacant by former Chief Ombudsman Michael Dick whose service came to end when he reached the retirement age of 55 on 4th October 2019.

Ombudsman presents Annual Report 2018-2019
The Ombudsman for the Ministry of Interior of Bahrain has recently published its sixth Annual Report covering the period 1 May 2018 to 30 April 2019.In this period the Ombudsman has received 1067 complaints and assistance requests. Ombudsman Nawaf Mohamed Al Moawdah declares that this number reflects the users´ confidence in the impartiality, professionalism and commitment to justice of the Bahrain Ombudsman for the Ministry of Interior.

An invitation from the Chief Ombudsman of Thailand for Western Australian Ombudsman and IOI President, Chris Field PSM, to visit Bangkok and attend the 2023 Asia Region Meeting of the IOI and International Seminar proved a propitious occasion for the two offices to undertake a Bilateral Meeting under the MoU.

La Generalitat elimina la obligación de la cita previa a petición del Síndic
El Gobierno de la Generalitat aprobó un nuevo modelo de atención al ciudadano que incluye dos medidas que el Síndic venía reclamando desde hace tiempo. En primer lugar, se ha suprimido la preinscripción obligatoria para acceder a servicios y trámites. En segundo lugar, la Generalitat ha anunciado que el teléfono de información ciudadana 012 será gratuito.

Ombudsplan 2020 tabled in Parliament
The 2020 Ombudsplan of the Parliamentary Ombudsman Malta was tabled in Parliament by the President of the House of Representatives, the Hon. Anglu Farrugia. It outlines the 25 principles adopted by the Venice Commission aimed at protecting and promoting ombudsman institutions and compares them to the Maltese legislation. The Ombudsplan also makes recommendations on how the Ombudsman legislation can be strengthened to make the work of the Ombudsman more effective and efficient.

Ombudsman Sindh presents Annual Report 2022 to Governor and Chief Minister Sindh
Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Mr. Ajaz Ali Khan, presented the Annual Report of the Ombudsman Institution for the year 2022 to the Chief Minister Sindh on 11 June 2023 and to the Governor Sindh on 12 June 2023. The report highlighted the performance, achievements and progress of the Institution during the year 2022.

World Mental Health Day - Ombudsman recalls need for urgent improvements in Education Centers
Following visits to the country's Educational Centers (EC), the Ombudsman of Portugal, acting as head of the National Prevention Mechanism (NPM), made a recommendation in February 2019 to the Directorate General for Reinsertion and Prison Services (DGRSP) to overcome several identified shortcomings. The recommendation of the Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral, urged the DGRSP to install, in articulation with the health authorities, still this year, a therapeutic unit for the treatment of acute cases diagnosed in the mental health panorama.
