Baby’s death from heart defect was avoidable
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has found serious failings at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust after a six-month-old baby died because his heart defect was not diagnosed and treated, despite multiple opportunities to do so.

IOI member becomes active on the Act on Lawyers
It is adequately ensured that the Hungarian Bar Association takes effective action against lawyers who infringe their obligations, but the Ombudsman is concerned that time limits for proceedings are lacking. Máté Szabó Ombudsman considers that a new regulation ordering the fining of lawyers also constitutes a danger for legal certainty.

Victorian Ombudsman begins investigation into credit card use at Warrnambook City Council
Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass has begun investigating the use and authorisation of corporate credit cards at Warrnambool City Council. The investigation follows media reports that a former Council manager resigned earlier this year after misusing a Council credit card.

Ombudsman hosts 2nd Istanbul International Ombudsman Conference
The Ombudsman Institution of Turkey was pleased to have successfully hosted the “2nd Istanbul International Ombudsman Conference”, which took place from 18 – 19 November 2019 in Istanbul, Turkey, which brought together around 150 participants from 57 countries of different continents, representing various national and international Ombudsman institutions as well as Human Rights Commissions.

L’Ombudsman de l’Ontario Paul Dubé a demandé aujourd’hui à la Municipalité régionale de Niagara d’améliorer ses pratiques, l’enquête menée par lui ayant conclu que le processus d’embauche de l’ancien directeur général, Carmen D’Angelo, avait été « compromis » en raison de fuites de renseignements confidentiels orchestrées de l’intérieur au bureau de l’ancien président régional.

AOB recommendations regarding prohibition of discrimination implemented
Already twice, the AOB submitted a recommendation to the Federal Government requesting it to ensure an effective and uniform enforcement of the prohibition of discrimination based on ethnic origin. An amendment to the Administrative Procedure Acts now takes into consideration the AOB recommendations.
