Ombudsman urges improvements in how trees are protected in Northern Ireland’s planning system
A report published by the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) into how trees are protected has found that despite 369 tree protection breaches reported between 2019 and 2022, only one resulted in enforcement action being taken, and none led to prosecution. The report also found there was a lack of clear information for the public on Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), and that information about which trees are protected should be made more accessible.

Following submission of his 51st Annual Report 2024 to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Harry Ganoo, G.O.S.K, Ombudsman launched his report, covering the period of 1 January to 31 December 2024 on 10 July 2025 to the Press during an event held at the Conference Room of the Ombudsman’s Office in the presence of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for Human Rights.

Ombudsman nullifies recruitments at tax collecting body
The Honorable Ombudsman Grace Tikambenji Malera has nullified recruitment of 8 Call Center Agents for the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), saying it was done without following the due process, proper procedures and rules. According to Ms Malera, authorities within the MRA used word of mouth to announce the existing vacancies, a thing she has said is tantamount to Maladministration.

Consultation of the regions on the IOI World Conference Themes
For the 13th IOI World Conference the National Ombudsman of the Netherlands proposed five themes to be discussed during the event. As the institution wanted to learn the views of other regions on the themes, they started online meetings with the IOI regional boards where the latter were invited to share their thoughts and ideas on the themes as viewed from their perspective.

El Defensor del Pueblo recomienda que las ayudas para rehabilitación de vivienda sean compatibles con los complementos a mínimos en pensiones y con el Ingreso Mínimo Vital
La institución Defensor del Pueblo ha iniciado una actuación de oficio y ha enviado dos recomendaciones a la Secretaría de Estado de Seguridad Social y Pensiones para que estudie cambios legales que posibiliten que las subvenciones y ayudas destinadas a rehabilitación de vivienda, que reciben particulares o comunidades de propietarios, queden excluidas y no computen a efectos del límite de ingresos que se exige para la percepción del complemento a mínimos en pensiones contributivas (jubilación, viudedad, incapacidad), así como la percepción de las pensiones no contributivas.
