Defensoría del Pueblo saluda aprobación de ley de consulta a los pueblos indígenas
El Defensor del Pueblo en funciones, Eduardo Vega, expresó su satisfacción y saludó la decisión del Pleno del Congreso de la República, que hoy aprobó la Ley de Consulta a los Pueblos Indígenas, a la que calificó como “una norma que constituye un paso trascendental en el reconocimiento de los derechos de los pueblos indígenas y para institucionalizar el diálogo intercultural entre éstos y las autoridades del Estado”. Asimismo, indicó que tal medida acoge las recomendaciones efectuadas por la Defensoría del Pueblo.

Continuous commitment and outstanding efforts by members of the ombudsman community have shaped the I.O.I. and made it the most important organisation for the cooperation of more than 135 independent public service ombudsman institutions. The I.O.I. recently thanked them for their valuable services.

I.O.I. prepares annual officer elections
According to Article 21 (2) of the I.O.I. By-laws “The officers of the Institute, except the Secretary General, shall be elected at the annual meeting of the Board from amongst the Directors”. As a consequence officer elections will be held during the Livingstone Board Meeting to appoint the President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the Institute.

Ombudsman denounces police conduct at pro-Tibetan demonstration
"Measures taken against flag-waving pro-Tibetan demonstrators during the visit of the Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in Budapest, had violated the rights of free expression and human dignity, and the prohibition of discrimination"- revealed by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Civil Rights, Prof. Dr. Máté Szabó.

I.O.I. World Conference 2012 - new website
The 10th I.O.I.World Conference, to be held in Wellington, New Zealand from 13 to 16 November 2012, will provide Ombudsmen from around the world with the opportunity to meet, share their experience and engage in fruitful debate and discussion. The conference website has been recently launched.

Discrimination in job advertisements
The Public Defender of Rights (Ombudsman), as the Czech equality body, responses for researching in the area of discrimination and his first research was focused on employment (job offering). Ombudsman analyzed about 12,000 job advertising released on one of the portals in April and found out that every 6th advertisement was discriminatory.

Ombudsman recommends criminalisation of homophobic offences
The Ombudsman recently recommended that offences against the person and discriminatory acts where homophobia is the main motivation be criminalised. He underscores that in most EU Member States' legislations, homophobia is an aggravating circumstance or a constituent element of the offence.

La Institución del Defensor del Pueblo, en su condición de MNP, visita 231 lugares de privación de libertad en su primer año de trabajo. Recientemente la oficina del Defensor del Pueblo, que dirige María Luisa Cava de Llano, ha hecho público el primer informe del Mecanismo Nacional de Prevención de la Tortura (MNP).

Plusieurs nouveaux titulaires sont entrés en fonction dans les dernières semaines : Monsieur Dominique Baudis est désormais le nouveau Défendeur des droits français. Madame Calliope Spanou est le nouvel Ombudsman grec. Et Madame Raymonde Saint-Germain a été reconduite dans ses fonctions au Québec – pour ne citer que quelques noms parmi les nombreuses personnalités connues.

Les Ombudsmans et le personnel du Bureau néo-zélandais des Ombudsmans se réjouissent d’ores et déjà d’accueillir la communauté de l'Ombudsman en Nouvelle-Zélande en novembre 2012 à l’occasion du Congrès mondial de l’I.I.O. Les invitations officielles ainsi que les informations relatives à l’inscription seront envoyées d’ici quelques mois et le site Internet du congrès sera « en ligne » sous peu.

Rapport Annuel de la Cour
