The office of the Provedor for Human Rights and Justice of Timor-Leste hosted the 2nd Techincal Working Group Meeting of the South East Asia National Human Right Institutions Forum (SEANF) from 23 - 25 July 2019. SEANF is a Forum of National Human Rights Institutions from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Timor-Leste.

Ombuds Day – 10 October 2019
This year marks the second annual celebration of a highly impactful profession that has been around for centuries, but still remains unknown. On 10 October 2019, the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Dispute Resolution Section Ombuds Committee invites you to the celebration of the ombudsman profession. Ombuds Day is inclusive of all types of ombuds and will occur on the second Thursday of October each year.

Derecho al sufragio de las personas privadas de su libertad
A pesar de que en nuestra legislación vigente la ejecución de la pena implicaría solo la restricción de la libertad ambulatoria, las personas condenadas actualmente siguen sin gozar del acceso a otros derechos fundamentales, como lo es el derecho al voto. La Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación (PPN) sostiene que los derechos políticos son derechos humanos de importancia fundamental, por lo cual la pena privativa de la libertad no debiera privar el goce de éstos por parte de las personas condenadas.

Investigación sobre huevos contaminados por insecticidas
En agosto de 2017 se destapó en Europa el caso de huevos contaminados por un insecticida de uso ilegal, el Fipronil. En Taiwán se detectaron también huevos contaminados en inspecciónes realizadas por el Consejo de Agricultura del Yuan Ejecutivo (YE). 45 granjas avícolas presentaban altos niveles de Fipronil, amenazando la seguridad alimentaria y causando pánico entre los consumidores.

The Office of the Ombudsman of Malta received a request for cooperation from the Office of the Spanish Defensor Del Pueblo concerning an unaccompanied minor who was given shelter in Malta after departing from Libya, and who claimed to have been separated from his family who were residing in a centre in Malaga.

Ombudsman fights for the improvement in publication of court decisions
Public access to court case-law contributes to predictable decision-making by the courts, unification of the decision-making practice and transparency of court decisions, and thus also to promotion of the right to a fair trial. The Ministry of Justice has to provide for proper functioning of online records of court case-law.

Peer Review Seminar to be hosted in London
The UK Parliamentary Ombudsman will be hosting a seminar on Peer Review in London in conjunction with the IOI on Monday, 23 September 2019. This follows on from the review of his Office which IOI President, Peter Tyndall led in conjunction with the late Caroline Mitchell of the UK Financial Ombudsman and Christian Gill, Lecturer in Public Law at University of Glasgow.
