City of Toronto improves how it handles dangerous dogs
The City of Toronto Ombudsman says a Toronto family deserves a lot of credit for changes the City is making to how it handles complaints about dangerous dogs. Susan Opler made the observation today when releasing the results of an Enquiry into the family’s complaint about Toronto Animal Services, part of the City’s Municipal Licensing & Standards division.

Ombudsman hosts 2nd Istanbul International Ombudsman Conference
The Ombudsman Institution of Turkey was pleased to have successfully hosted the “2nd Istanbul International Ombudsman Conference”, which took place from 18 – 19 November 2019 in Istanbul, Turkey, which brought together around 150 participants from 57 countries of different continents, representing various national and international Ombudsman institutions as well as Human Rights Commissions.

Ontario Ombudsman finds Niagara CAO hiring was “inside job”
Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé today called on the Regional Municipality of Niagara to improve its practices after his investigation found its hiring of former Chief Administrative Officer Carmen D’Angelo was “compromised” by confidential information leaked by insiders in the former Regional Chair’s office.

Defensoría del Pueblo pide aumento de inversión para erradicar basurales urbanos y rurales que contaminan y afectan la salud
Mediante un informe, la Defensoría del Pueblo del Perú pidió al Poder Ejecutivo y a los gobiernos locales incrementar la inversión pública y privada en favor de la limpieza de las ciudades y la erradicación de los basurales urbanos y rurales. Asimismo, solicitó a los municipios una mejora en la provisión de los servicios de barrido, limpieza de espacios públicos y recolección selectiva de residuos.

10 years since the adoption of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although the principle of equality and non-discrimination is an integral part of all treaties and human rights declarations, as well as the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the significance of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination is immeasurable.

APT workshop - torture prevention makes headways in Panama
In a week of events in Panama City, torture prevention was at the centre of the agenda, under the aegis of the National Mechanism to prevent torture. Authorities, civil society organisations and others discussed the necessity to prevent torture, particularly when targeting the most vulnerable sectors of the society.
