The CCAC suggests the relevant departments pay more attention to the work of disseminating preliminary information and broadening the general public's knowledge in order to allow them to better understand and gain knowledge of the relevant legal regime about economic housing.

On 7 May 2024, Colonel (Ret’d) Nishika Jardine, Veterans Ombud, released her letter to the Minister of Veterans Affairs on the fairness gap currently affecting some Veterans and their relatives. According to the Ombud, Veterans Affairs Canada’s (VAC) Veterans Independence Program policy may exclude access to care-at-home supports when Veterans’ family members live with them.

IOI Board and General Assembly meet in The Hague
The 13th World Conference and General Assembly of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) was successfully hosted by the National Ombudsman of the Netherlands in The Hague from 12 – 17 May 2024. After the years of the pandemic, the conference provided an opportunity for the entire membership of the IOI to meet again in person after eight long years and 200 delegates from 60 different countries and all six IOI regions participated in this important quadrennial event.

13th IOI World Conference inaugurated in The Hague
The 13th IOI world conference started on Wednesday, 15 May 2024 in The Hague. After giving his opening speech, His Majesty the King of the Netherlands revealed together with the future generation three paintings on the theme of the conference: working together for our tomorrow. This was followed by the speech of the keynote speaker, Ian Buruma, with the title: We Are the People: Citizenship, Identity and the Nation-State.

CDHCM es electa para presidir el Instituto Internacional del Ombudsman (IIO)
El 14 de mayo de 2024, la titular de la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Ciudad de México (CDHCM), Nashieli Ramírez Hernández, tomó protesta en el cargo honorífico como presidenta del Instituto Interamericano del Ombudsman (IIO) para el periodo 2024-2028. En los 45 años desde su fundación, es la primera vez que México preside el IIO, la segunda ocasión que lo hace una persona latinoamericana y la primera vez que una mujer de esa región encabeza el liderazgo del Instituto.

El cierre del albergue de Badalona pone en riesgo a personas que ya viven en situación de extrema vulnerabilidad
El 29 de abril 2024 cerró el albergue Can Bofí Vell de Badalona, que acogía hasta entonces a cuarenta y cinco personas sin hogar que pasaban la noche en este equipamiento o utilizaban su servicio de comidas. La institución, preocupada por la situación, ha abierto una actuación de oficio y ha pedido información al Ayuntamiento sobre las alternativas y recursos que se han ofrecido a las personas afectadas con el objetivo de evitar que se vean obligadas a volver a la calle.
