In October 2015, the Control Yuan (CY) voted in favor of impeaching a Taipei High Administrative Court judge for sexual harassment against an office assistant. In making its decision, the CY stated that the judge had tarnished the public’s respect for a court judge’s position; his conduct was unsuited to the role of a judge. The CY then sent the case to the Judicial Yuan’s Court of the Judiciary for trial.

Reappointment of Mrs. Maria Stylianou-Lottides as the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights
The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, has reappointed Mrs. Maria Stylianou-Lottides as the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights (Ombudsman) for a six year term after the approval of her nomination by the House of Representatives.

The Ombudsman Saskatchewan publishes annual report 2022 and credits staff for 50 years of serving citizens
On 27 April 2023, the annual reports for 2022 for Saskatchewan’s Ombudsman and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner were tabled in the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly – a historic year, since the office is approaching its 50th anniversary.

Roundtable discussion sparks talks for action and change
The Ombudsman in conjunction with the Commonwealth Secretariat recently held roundtable discussions on equality and inclusion understood in the context of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRH) in Namibia. The discussions also included the context of sexual orientation and gender identity in Namibia. The week-long discussions saw stakeholders from the Education, civil society; NGOs, government and other sectors share their experiences and challenges pertaining to the two issues at hand.

Summer School for the Ombudspersons
Last July, the first comprehensive summer school for ombudspersons was held, following the example set by countries such as Canada and England, where a special training course for and about ombuds work already exists. The aim of this in-depth summer school was to highlight all the different aspects of the work an ombudsperson carries out.
