World’s first official international Ombudsman review finds UK service is robust and good value
The first ever peer review undertaken under the auspices of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) finds that the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) delivers an “efficient, enhanced and effective modern service” and provides significant value for stakeholders. It has become a much stronger organisation since a previous independent peer review in 2018.

Commonwealth Ombudsman investigates decisions of Department of Veteran’s Affairs
On 30 July 2018, the Commonwealth Ombudsman, Michael Manthorpe, released a report on the investigation of the actions and decisions of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) in relation to a complaint made by a veteran with over 30 years of service to Australia, and the difficulties he faced in accessing his correct entitlements.

La Defensoría del Pueblo manifestó preocupación por posibles nuevos aumentos en las tarifas de gas y energía eléctrica
El titular de la cartera energética señaló que analiza aplicar incrementos del orden del 25 y 30 por ciento del gas en boca de pozo y en el valor de la energía en el mercado eléctrico mayorista. La Defensoría del Pueblo indicó que, de producirse, éstos impactarán fuertemente en las facturas de los usuarios residenciales y pequeñas y medianas empresas (pymes).

Ombudsman attends 10th anniversary of South African Military Ombudsman
The Angolan Ombudsman, Ms. Antónia Florbela Rocha Araújo, at the invitation of the South African Military Ombudsman, Lt Gen (Ret) Vusi Masondo, attended the annual symposium marking the 10th Year Anniversary since the establishment of the South African Military Ombudsman Office, under the theme: "The Role of the Ombudsman in the Oversight Within the Civil Military Architecture: Threats, Resilience, Responsiveness and Future Implications".

Network of Southeast European NPMs meets in Vienna
From 15 – 16 November 2022, the second meeting of this year of the Southeast European Network of National Preventive Mechanisms (SEE NPM Network) was held in Vienna under the chairmanship of the Austrian Ombudsman Board. Within this network, 13 NPMs meet regularly to exchange experiences and facilitate shared learning.

Ombudsman Hong Kong publishes latest issue of Annual Report
On 17 July 2018, the Ombudsman, Ms Connie Lau, released to the public her Annual Report 2018. During the year covered by the report, the Office of The Ombudsman saw record highs in the numbers of direct investigations completed, mediation cases handled and complaints relating to access to information lodged with the Office. Around 90 per cent of the recommendations made by the Office have been accepted by government departments and public bodies for implementation.

El Defensor del Pueblo Alejandro Amor, el vicejefe de Gobierno Diego Santilli, las ministras de Educación y de Desarrollo Humano y Hábitat, Soledad Acuña y Guadalupe Tagliaferri respectivamente, y la presidenta del Consejo de los Derechos de Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes Karina Leguizamon suscribieron un protocolo para la prevención e intervención ante situaciones de violencia de género.
