2020-05-27UNESCO launches 2020 survey on public access to information
UNESCO has kicked off a global survey on public access to information within its efforts to assist countries to report on Sustainable Development Goal 16, particularly on its Target 16.10 which recognizes the contribution of access to information to justice, peace and strong institutions. Using SDG Indicator 16.10.2, the survey will track progress on the adoption and implementation of constitutional, statutory and/or policy guarantees for public access to information around the world.

Caída de grúa y muerte de pasajera en MRT de Taichung ponen de manifiesto negligencia del sector de la construcción en materia de seguridad laboral
El 10 de mayo de 2023 se produjo un grave incidente de seguridad pública en el sistema de tránsito rápido masivo (MRT) de Taichung, en el que un tren fue incapaz de responder ante una emergencia y fue golpeado por el brazo de una grúa que cayó en las vías del MRT, causando la muerte de una mujer y 15 heridos. El Yuan de Control propuso medidas correctivas a agencias implicadas.

La síndica recuerda que las pruebas de determinación de la edad no pueden aplicarse de forma indiscriminada
En los últimos años, la institución del Síndic de Greuges ha recibido varias quejas relacionadas con las pruebas óseas que se practican a los jóvenes migrantes para determinar su edad. En el informe La situación de los niños migrantes sin referentes familiares en Cataluña, de 2018, la institución ya denunció que estas pruebas presentaban carencias desde el punto de vista de las garantías jurídicas y médicas.

Según los datos de la Sala Situacional de Dengue del Ministerio de Salud, hasta el dia de 14 de mayo de 2024 se tiene un acumulado de 209198 casos y 202 fallecidos por dengue en todo el país. La Defensoría del Pueblo, como institución encargada de la defensa de los derechos fundamentales de las personas, en este caso garantizar el derecho a la salud, ha advertido en distintas ocasiones sobre el incremento sostenido de casos en la capital del Perú.

The Commonwealth Ombudsman published Access All Areas: Monitoring Places of Detention 2022-23 report
On 21 May 2024, the Commonwealth Ombudsman, in his role as the Commonwealth National Preventive Mechanism (NPM), published "Access All Areas: Monitoring Places of Detention 2022-23", a report which makes 12 recommendations to the Department of Home Affairs to ensure systemic improvements to how people are treated in immigration detention.

CHRAJ calls for quick passage of Aged Bill
Joseph Whittal, the Commissioner of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has called for the quick passage of the Aged Bill into law to ensure the effective protection of the rights of the aged. Mr. Whittal made the call in Accra at a Round Table Meeting as part of activities to mark the International Day of Older Persons.

As the outbreak rapidly develops, governments have taken broad and strict measures to reduce the virus’ spread, prevent a breakdown of healthcare systems and save lives. In these responses, all human rights must be kept at the heart, as they can help us in overcoming this public health challenge while protecting our dignity and democratic freedoms.
