2021-06-14Northern Ireland Ombudsman proposes new complaints handling standards for public bodies
The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman, Margaret Kelly, has today called for a culture change in the way public bodies in Northern Ireland deal with complaints from members of the public. Her comments came as a new survey showed two thirds of people who were dissatisfied with the level of service from a public body said they would not complain as they thought it would make no difference or be too trivial.

2015-09-08The Constitutional Court repealed the provisions of the Mental Health Act at the Ombudsman’s request
The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia repealed a part of the Mental Health Act at its session on 10 June 2015. The third sentence of the second paragraph of Article 74 is repealed, namely the provision defining that on behalf of a person who has been deprived of their capacity to conclude contracts, consent for admission to a secure ward is given by a legal representative. It also repealed the third sentence of the third paragraph of Article 74 of this Act, i.e. the provision regulating that only the legal representative of the person in a secure ward may withdraw such consent at any time or request that the person be released from the ward.

2021-06-11New statute: Ombudsman welcomes legal strengthening of her Office
European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly welcomes the Parliament’s approval (602 votes out of the 692 cast) of a strengthened legal framework for her Office. The revised statute strengthens the legal base of the Ombudsman and introduces new safeguards to further guarantee its independence, including an adequate budget to support the Office’s activities.

La Médiatrice européenne, Emily O'Reilly, se félicite du fait que le Parlement ait approuvé le renforcement du cadre juridique de son bureau (602 votes sur 692 votants). La révision du statut va permettre de renforcer la base juridique du Médiateur, introduire des garanties supplémentaires pour assurer son indépendance, y compris un budget approprié pour soutenir les activités du bureau.
