    Ombudsman sends suggestions to make the suspension of tax executions effective

    The Ombudsman suggested adaptations of procedures to ensure effective suspension of the practical effects of all tax enforcement proceedings in relation to seizures (or other coercive acts) on the part of the Tax Authority, the Social Security Executive Chambers and the third parties responsible for complying with them, in the cases of banks, paying entities (of salaries or pensions) and debtor entities (of credits of those executed).

    Ombudsman Malera sworn in as MHRC Commissioner

    On Thursday, 5 October 2023, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Malawi Grace Tikambenji Malera took oath of office as Commissioner for the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC). Honorable Malera together with eight others were hosted to a swearing in ceremony by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe. The swearing-in ceremony follows their appointment by the President three weeks earlier.

    The Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman has received more than 100 complaints related to the state of emergency and the coronavirus pandemic. The complaints have concerned all branches of administration. Many of the complaints are related to health care, social welfare and social insurance.     Police Ombudsman evaluates impact of Body Worn Video

    In a special report the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland, Marie Anderson, evaluates the impact of the introduction of Body Worn Video (BWV) on complaints about the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI). In two parts the report provides statistical and qualitative analysis and shows a number of case studies to identify instances when the new technology helped the Ombudsman’s investigations as well as instances when it did not.
