2022-02-11Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman welcomes Prince Edward Island's first Ombudsperson
Prince Edward Island’s (PEI) becomes the latest province to appoint an independent officer responsible for ensuring fairness and providing a safe avenue for whistleblower complaints in the public service. Sandy Hermiston will take office as the province’s first Ombudsperson and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner on 14 February 2022. The Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman (CCPO) warmly welcomes the news.

L’Île-du-Prince-Édouard devient la dernière province à nommer un agent indépendant chargé d’assurer l’équité et d’offrir un moyen sûr de déposer des plaintes en divulgation dans la fonction publique. À titre d’ombudsman de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard, Sandy Hermiston entrera en fonction le 14 février 2022 et deviendra la première ombudsperson et commissaire à la divulgation dans l’intérêt public de la province. Le Conseil canadien de l’ombudsman parlementaire (CCPO) accueille chaleureusement la nouvelle personne.

“Todos tenemos derecho al ocio y la recreación pero para ello se requiere que nadie tensione nuestra presencia ya sea con comentarios, actitudes o incluso miradas. En cualquier momento del año, pero sobre todo en verano en que se exponen más los cuerpos, todos debemos poder ir a la playa sin preocuparnos por el qué dirán o cómo nos mirarán”, dijo el Ombudsman quien este viernes respaldó con su presencia el lanzamiento de dicho programa en la ciudad que en todo el país impulsa el Instituto Nacional de Lucha contra la Discriminación, Xenofobia y Racismo (Inadi).

On 1 February 2022, Ms Adele Squillaci took office as the new Ombudsman of the Valle d'Aosta. Ms Squillaci was elected by the Regional Assembly at its meeting of 12 January 2022 for a five year term. She succeeds Ombudsman Enrico Formento Dojot.

Western Australia Ombudsman appointed for a further five-year-term
Chris Field, Western Australian Ombudsman and President of the International Ombudsman Institute has been appointed for a further five-year term. It is absolutely vital that an Ombudsman is utterly apolitical and impartial. It is therefore particularly pleasing that Mr Field was first appointed for a five-year term in 2007 under the Carpenter Labor Government, twice reappointed under the Barnett Liberal Government and now reappointed under the McGowan Labor Government.
