Outgoing Ombudsman calls for review of Ombudsman Act
Outgoing Ombudsman Peter Tyndall has called for a review of the Ombudsman Act. Speaking today [30 September 2021] at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Petitions, the Ombudsman said that the legislation, which dates back to 1980, should be replaced with a more modern, fit for purpose alternative, in line with the United Nations endorsed Venice Principles - the global standard for public service Ombudsman institutions.

REMINDER: Tender for IOI regional subsidies 2021/2022 still open
In its efforts to further increase the regional impact of the IOI, the members of the IOI Board of Directors decided at the ir online Board meeting held in May 2021 to continue the regional subsidy programme for the membership year 2021/2022. Instituions are kindly invited to send project proposals for regional subsidies to the IOI General Secretariat by 11 October 2021.

Control Yuan urges three-level prevention of sexual assaults of children and youths
The protection of the rights of children and youths in Taiwan should be in line with international standards, and the securing of their personal safety is an even more pressing concern. To effectively prevent these young people suffering sexual assaults, Control Yuan (CY) urged the government to examine the existing mechanisms by launching an investigation entitled “Discussion on the Effectiveness of the Government’s Implementation of Preventing the Sexual Assault of Children and Youths.”
