The Public Protector of Zambia, Mrs Caroline C.Z Sokoni in her capacity as the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) Africa Regional President and Treasurer General of African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), met with the Swedish Ambassador to Zambia Mr Henrik Cederin on 9th August 2018 and the European Union (EU) Ambassador, Head of Delegation to the Republic of Zambia and COMESA Mr Alessandro Mariani on 10th August 2018 respectively.

The United States Ombudsman Association’s (USOA) holds a conference every year. USOA’s 40th Annual Conference will be held from 18 – 20 September 2019, at the Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel in Honolulu. Pre-conference workshops will be offered from 16 - 17 September 2019.

Staff of the Iowa Office of Ombudsman are saddened by news of the death of former Governor Robert Ray, who established the ombudsman’s office in 1970 as a way to make government more accountable and responsive to the citizens it serves.

Irish Ombudsman welcomes progress on implementing Magdalen report recommendations
IOI President and Irish Ombudsman Peter Tyndall welcomed the Minister for Justice and Equality’s announcement that it will move forward on implementing the recommendations following the investigation into how the Department of Justice and Equality administered the Magdalen Restorative Justice scheme. The report of his investigation, Opportunity Lost, was critical of how the Department administered the scheme, including how some women who worked in the Magdalen laundries have been wrongly refused access to the scheme.

Human Rights Defender takes part in seminar on women's rights in closed institutions
The work of the Human Rights Defender in penitentiary institutions is extremely important from the perspective of guaranteeing the human rights. This was highlighted by the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan during the seminar on “International standards on Women Offenders: Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners” organized on 14-15 April in Tsaghkadzor.

Polish Ombudsman Adam Bodnar met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein in Geneva. The conversation focused on the most important problems related to the protection of human rights in Poland, including the situation of the judiciary and threats to the rule of law.
