Northern Ireland Ombudsman proposes new complaints handling standards for public bodies
The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman, Margaret Kelly, has today called for a culture change in the way public bodies in Northern Ireland deal with complaints from members of the public. Her comments came as a new survey showed two thirds of people who were dissatisfied with the level of service from a public body said they would not complain as they thought it would make no difference or be too trivial.

New statute: Ombudsman welcomes legal strengthening of her Office
European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly welcomes the Parliament’s approval (602 votes out of the 692 cast) of a strengthened legal framework for her Office. The revised statute strengthens the legal base of the Ombudsman and introduces new safeguards to further guarantee its independence, including an adequate budget to support the Office’s activities.

L’invisibilité grandissante et préoccupante des personnes exilées en Île-de-France compromet l’effectivité de leurs droits
La Défenseure des droits, Claire Hédon, et le président du Comité consultatif national d’éthique, le Professeur Jean-François Delfraissy se sont rendus le 3 juin auprès de personnes exilées et sans abri vivant dans des squats ou campements de fortune en Île de France. Pour aller au plus près de cette réalité, la Défenseure des droits et le président du CCNE ont pris part à une maraude à Bobigny et sur l’Île Saint Denis et ont participé à une distribution alimentaire à la Porte de la Villette. Un temps d’échange a également eu lieu avec les associations œuvrant auprès de ces personnes.

Dublin Declaration adopted by IOI General Assembly
The Dublin Declaration sets out the contribution Ombudsman organisations will make to the UN Agenda 2030, especially the prerequisite of leaving ‘no one behind’ and ensuring that all persons can fulfil their potential in equality. The declaration commits to working towards achieving equality of access to vaccination, urging vaccines to be treated as a global public good to be made available equally around the globe.

Servicios de protección para niños, niñas y adolescentes extranjeros no acompañados en Europa
Los niños y niñas extranjeros no acompañados constituyen, actualmente, uno de los principales desafíos de la migración para las sociedades y administraciones públicas europeas. Un estudio elaborado por el Ararteko por encargo de la sección europea del Instituto Internacional del Ombudsman (IIO) y presentado en la Conferencia Mundial del IIO estos días, selecciona y recopila una serie de prácticas prometedoras en el ámbito de la protección a niñas y niños extranjeros no acompañados.
