2018-05-14Ombudsman Sindh saves career of Ned University student
A student of NED University and some of his colleages approached Mr. Asad Ashraf Malik, Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, stating that although NED University of Engineering & Technology had announced a B.Tech Conversion Programme for students who had completed B.Tech (Pass) in a different field of engineering, entitling them for admission in 3rd year Bachelor of Engineering (B.E), admission was declined to them. The Ombudsman issued directives to the university to enquire and report and to the Vice Chancellor to streamline a procedure of admission in the university so that no student should suffer in the future.

The work of the Human Rights Defender in penitentiary institutions is extremely important from the perspective of guaranteeing the human rights. This was highlighted by the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan during the seminar on “International standards on Women Offenders: Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners” organized on 14-15 April in Tsaghkadzor.

2018-05-07El defensor del Pueblo santafesino expuso en la ONU la experiencia sobre evaluación de políticas públicas
El defensor del Pueblo de la provincia de Santa Fe, Raúl Lamberto, presentó este lunes 30 en la sede de Naciones Unidas en Nueva York la experiencia sobre evaluación del estado de avance de políticas públicas con enfoque de derechos humanos, realizada en la ciudad de Rosario durante el año 2017. El defensor expuso en el marco de una jornada que celebró el 40º aniversario de la creación del Instituto Internacional del Ombudsman (IIO), y que estuvo organizada por esa institución, las embajadas de Austria e Irlanda ante la ONU y los ombudsman de Zambia y Tailandia.

2018-04-27South Korean Gender Equality and Family Committee delegation visits Control Yuan
A delegation of the South Korean National Assembly's Committee for Gender Equality and Family visited the Control Yuan on March 30. The two sides engaged in open and friendly exchanges of views on a range of topics, including women’s political participation as well as the supervision of government. The visiting dignitaries praised the Control Yuan’s balanced gender ratio after President Chang explained that 14 of the CY’s 29 members, half of its directors and more than half of its employees are female.

2018-04-24Victorian Ombudsman tabled report into Wodonga City Council’s overcharged waste management levy
Wodonga Council collected at least $18 million in extra revenue from its waste management levy over the past decade, using the surplus to fund other council services, the Ombudsman has found. Tabling her Investigation into Wodonga City Council’s overcharging of a waste management levy in the Victorian Parliament today, Ombudsman Deborah Glass said about 70 per cent of the revenue raised through the charge had been spent on waste-related services. Nearly a third had been spent on other council services, such as the maintenance of parks, gardens and other council activities.

2018-04-23Irish Ombudsman welcomes progress on implementing Magdalen report recommendations
IOI President and Irish Ombudsman Peter Tyndall welcomed the Minister for Justice and Equality’s announcement that it will move forward on implementing the recommendations following the investigation into how the Department of Justice and Equality administered the Magdalen Restorative Justice scheme. The report of his investigation, Opportunity Lost, was critical of how the Department administered the scheme, including how some women who worked in the Magdalen laundries have been wrongly refused access to the scheme.

The total number of complaints delivered in 2017 to the Ombudsman was 8,191. People increasingly turn to the Ombudsman's Office with their problems in the sphere of social security and also number of complaints concerning work and employment increased by 39 percent.

Holding Pattern is the report of the Ombudsperson’s systemic investigation into the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction’s centralized telephone system and its impact on the applicants and recipients of income and disability assistance.
