Control Yuan 90th Anniversary Symposium on Practices and Prospects for Supervisory Power
2021 marks 90 years since the establishment of the Control Yuan, and on April 30, this anniversary was celebrated with a symposium comprising four panels: “Constitutionalism and Supervision,” “Supervisory Power and Legal Due Process,” “Supervision and Justice,” and “The Past of the Supervisory System and the Future of Human Rights.”

El Defensor del Pueblo (e.f.), Francisco Fernández Marugán, ha asegurado este martes que “el proceso de vacunación está desarrollándose de forma muy positiva” en nuestro país. En su comparecencia ante la Comisión Mixta de Relaciones con el Defensor del Pueblo, Fernández Marugán ha revelado que la Institución no ha recibido “ninguna queja” sobre dicho reparto.

Police stops in Europe: everyone has a right to equal treatment
A new paper by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) reveals the differences between people’s experiences with police stops. It shows that Black people, Asians and Roma are still more likely to be stopped and searched by police, which also affects their trust in policing. FRA will continue providing EU countries with data and guidance to support them in ensuring their policing practices respect people’s fundamental rights.

General Assembly adopts by-laws reform and Dublin Declaration
On 25 May 2021 the IOI General Assembly was held by virtual means and hosted by the Office of the Irish Ombudsman Peter Tyndall. The General Assembly brought together 130 IOI member institutions to hear presentations from the IOI Board of Directors on the organization’s services, development and achievements in the past years and to adopt two major reform to the IOI By-laws, in order to guarantee that the IOI becomes a more inclusive, transparent and democratic organization.

12th World Conference successfully hosted by the Irish Ombudsman
The office of the Ombudsman of Ireland successfully hosted the 12th World Conference of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) from 26 – 27 May 2021. Unfortunately, due the Covid-19 pandemic conference delegates were not able to come together and meet in Dublin in persons as originally planned. However, the Irish host delivered a professional online event, which made sure that participants enjoyed the full conference experience with remarkable speakers, interesting workshops and a wide possibility for exchange and shared learning.

Enquiry regarding a so-called enforced police assistance of a 13-year-old
A social welfare board requested the police's assistance to transport a 13-year-old girl to one of the National Board of Institutional Care’s residential homes for young people. The transport was delayed partly because the Police Authority and the social services disagreed on whether representatives of the social welfare board should accompany the transport, and partly because there were problems with booking a flight. 17 hours after the girl was taken into care the transport began by car and after 10 hours of transport, she arrived at the residential home

Asamblea Mundial del Instituto Internacional del Ombudsman
El Defensor del Pueblo Andaluz, Jesús Maeztu, ha participado, como miembro de pleno derecho, en la Asamblea Mundial del Instituto Internacional del Ombudsman (IIO), que se ha celebrado el 25 de mayo de 2021 mediante videoconferencia. En la referida Asamblea se ha aprobado la Declaración de Dublín en la que se señala que el IIO entiende que la pandemia no ha respetado la igualdad de oportunidades y ha afectado de forma desproporcionada a los grupos vulnerables.
