NEW ZEALAND | Ombudsman Quarterly Review Autumn 2021

Peter Boshier, Chief Ombudsman of New Zealand, presents the office’s Quarterly Review for Autumn 2021, which is now available online.

Issue 34 of the Ombudsman’s Quarterly Review includes:

  • The announcement of a comprehensive investigation into why there has been no sustained and significant improvement in some areas of treatment and conditions for prisoners;

  • An OPCAT inspection at Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre, finding a centre that is well-run overall, with positive practices and respectful interactions;

  • International engagement on OPCAT, Disability Rights, and a new UN Resolution sponsored by the Kingdom of Morocco;

  • Case notes concerning children in care, COVID-19 wage subsidies, and submissions on Victoria University’s name change proposal.
