Record number of complaints about public services to Ombudsman
Complaints to the Ombudsman about public services, such as those provided by government departments, local authorities and the HSE, reached a record high in 2021. Recently-appointed Ombudsman Ger Deering said that 4,004 complaints were received by his Office - a 17% increase on 2020, and the highest ever in the 38-year history of the Ombudsman.

On 21 November 2024, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the handling of obstructions to passageways by bicycles owned by operators of bicycle rental services of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and made eight recommendations to the Department.

Congreso Internacional de Mediación: El Abordaje del Conflicto en la Agenda Global
Este año se cumplen 30 años desde que se empezó a investigar la mediación para incorporarla a la Defensoría del Pueblo de la provincia de Santa Fe, y 27 años de la creación del Centro de Mediación y Resolución de Conflictos. En ese marco se llevará a cabo el Congreso Internacional: El Abordaje del Conflicto en la Agenda Global. La temática del Congreso girará alrededor del conflicto y la comprensión del mismo. El evento se desarrollará los días 5, 6 y 7 de julio 2022.

Ombudsman of Toronto publishes Annual Report 2021
In his 2021 Annual Report released today, Toronto’s Ombudsman said the City needs to re-dedicate itself to fairness for all its residents. "People in Toronto have spent more than two years adjusting to the ever-changing realities of the COVID-19 pandemic," says Ombudsman Kwame Addo. Memorandum of Understanding signed with UNITAR
On 12 May 2022 the IOI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in a virtual signing ceremony in New York. Ararteko Research Study: Sexist Attitudes among the Youth
In October 2024, the Ararteko-Ombudsman of the Basque Country presented a research “Study on Sexist Attitudes among the Youth and Adolescent Population of the Basque Country”. The research is intended to allow a better understanding of the phenomenon of sexist attitudes among the youth and adolescence and extract a series of conclusions, to use them as a basis for recommendations to support decision-makers and improve public policies on gender equality.
