Nova Scotia Appeal Court upholds power of ombudsman's office
Nova Scotia's highest court has reaffirmed the power of the provincial ombudsman's office to investigate allegations against government departments and agencies. In a decision, the Appeal Court ruled the Ombudsman's office has the authority to receive unredacted records from the Department of Health and Wellness, after the province had objected to releasing the documents in full.

Ombudsman Montreal files Annual Report 2018 with Montreal City Council
The Ombudsman of Montréal (OdM), Johanne Savard, filed the 15th Annual Report (2018) of their institution. This report includes statistical and general information on the activities of the Ombudsman, examples of files that were handled as well as information on the role and mandate of the office of the Ombudsman. Part 4 of the report is particularly interesting: it provides an overview of all the 2018 OdM interventions for each entity over which the Ombudsman has jurisdiction.

Partnership support for Ombudsman to improve Vanuatu Prisons
The Vanuatu Office of the Ombudsman has built expertise to conduct prison inspections through a learning exchange with the New Zealand Office of the Ombudsman. The workshop was funded by the Government of Australia and New Zealand Office of the Ombudsman with technical assistance provided by the United Nation’s Development Programme (UNDP).

Victorian Ombudsman begins investigation into credit card use at Warrnambook City Council
Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass has begun investigating the use and authorisation of corporate credit cards at Warrnambool City Council. The investigation follows media reports that a former Council manager resigned earlier this year after misusing a Council credit card.

Fourteen representatives from seven Pacific countries will undertake Ombudsman investigator training in Fiji next week. The Office of the New Zealand Ombudsman is leading the training which will take a typical complaint through the whole investigation process.
