Parliamentary Ombudsman nominates new Human Rights Delegation
On 27 March 2020, Petri Jääskeläinen, the Parliamentary Ombudsman, nominated a new Human Rights Delegation to serve a term from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2024. The Delegation has 38 members; a total of 134 people applied to join the Human Rights Delegation.

Ombudsman organized seminar on combating discrimination
In the framework of the regional project on “strengthening access to justice through non-judiciary redress mechanisms for victims of discrimination, hate crime and hate speech in Eastern Partnership countries” which is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe through the Partenship for Good Governance II programme, a training seminar on combating discrimination was organized in by the Ombudsman in January 2020.

The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh has approved a research study with Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) entitled study on “Issues of Girls’ Education in Sindh”, funded by IOI through Regional Subsidy Programme 2018-2019.

Hong Kong Ombudsman’s direct into arrangements for depositing layout plans of public pleasure grounds
The Ombudsman of Hong Kong, Ms Winnie Chiu, today (12 December) announced the completion of a direct investigation into the arrangements for depositing layout plans of public pleasure grounds (PPGs) in the Land Registry (LR) by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). The investigation report has been uploaded to the website of the Office of The Ombudsman for public information.

Attorney-general refers to ‘Venice Principles’ to support Cypriot Ombudswoman over administrative audit
Cypriot attorney-general Costas Clerides has rejected a demand by the country’s auditor-general that a criminal investigation be carried out against the Ombudswoman. In his legal opinion the attorney-general made strong reference to the Venice Principles and the IOI letter of support.

Policy fully accepted Ombudsman´s recommendations on arrestees´ rights
The draft decision of the Armenian Government on making changes in the internal regulation of places for keeping arrestees in the RA Police system was submitted for the opinion of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia. The study of the project indicates that it fully reflects the recommendations made by the Ombudsman.

Ombudsman conferred Compliance Predicate to ministries and local governments
On 27 November 2019, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia conferred the High Compliance Predicate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Religion, the Provincial Government of Jambi, the Provincial Government of Southeast Sulawesi and also 12 City Governments and 71 District Governments.
