IOI President awarded the Control Yuan First Grade Medal
IOI President Chris Field PSM was exceptionally humbled and privileged to be awarded the highest honour of the Control Yuan, the First Grade Medal, in a formal ceremony in Taipei. The Medal was granted in honour of “His extraordinary contribution to the promotion of international ombudsman and human rights work”. The Medal was placed upon President Field by Control Yuan President Chen Chu.

IOI President undertakes cultural visits during his visit to the Control Yuan
As part of the IOI President’s visit to the Control Yuan to receive its highest honour, the First Grade Medal, he also participated in a number of cultural visits, including: the Beitou Hot Springs District; the Beitou public library; the utterly beautiful Sun Moon Lake; the Kaohsiung Museum of History; Kaohsiung Formosa Boulevard Station, famous for its ‘Dome of Light’; the wonderful architectural achievement that is ‘Weiwuying’ National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts as well as the Pier-2 Art Centre.

The Ombudsman submits to Parliament a legislative proposal on the criminalisation of acts against human dignity
Ombudsman Diana Kovacheva submits to the National Assembly a legislative proposal for the criminalisation in the Criminal Code (CrC) of offences involving the intentional infliction of physical or mental pain or suffering that degrades human dignity. She announced this on 1 August 2023, in the programme “This Morning” on bTV in connection with the Stara Zagora case, where an 18-year-old girl was cut with a dummy knife by a man and as a result of the 24 injuries inflicted she received 400 stitches.

The Ombudsman Punjab Major Azam Suleman Khan presents the Annual Report 2022 to Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman
Ombudsman Punjab, Major Azam Suleman Khan (Retd) (Hilal-i-Imtiaz), presented the annual report of the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab for 2022 to Governor Punjab, Muhammad Balighur Rehman, at the governor's house. Major Azam Suleman Khan elaborated on the noteworthy aspects of the annual report, stating that the ombudsman office successfully resolved 29,970 complaints out of a total of 31,149, resulting in an impressive 96% resolution rate.

Malawi Ombudsman staff take the Oath of Secrecy
On 7 August 2023, the Office of the Ombudsman administered the Oath of Secrecy to 40 of its members of staff and interns. The Director of Legal Services and Advisory, Chipiliro Mangulama, said the ceremony is in line with Section 10 of The Ombudsman Act, which stipulates the need for officers in the office of the Ombudsman to treat with utmost confidentiality any information made available to them in the course of their work.

The Office of the Ombudsperson for Children invites Ombudsman and Mediator Institutions affiliated with the International Ombudsman Institute to participate in a 2-day Workshop on the theme “The role of Ombudsman and Mediators in monitoring the situation of children in conflict with the law and deprived of their liberty” to be held in the Republic of Mauritius on 5 and 6 September 2023. Kindly note that the registration deadline has been extended to 18 August 2023.
