2024-06-202023 Annual Report of the CCAC of Macao published in Official Gazette
The 2023 Annual Report of the Commission Against Corruption of Macao was published in the Official Gazette of the Macao Special Administrative Region on 12 June 2024. According to the report, the CCAC proactively seized the opportunities in the wake of the revival after the epidemic and sought improvement in corruption fighting, ombudsman actions and promotion and education.

2024-06-05The Public Defender summarises his work in 2023 in the annual report
Stanislav Křeček and Vít Alexander Schorm have presented the Annual Report of their office for the year 2023. They welcomed the fact that ministries and authorities had successfully used the Ombudsman’s findings to correct maladministration in individual cases and to change inappropriate practices. On the other hand, they also drew attention to some topics that remained open, such as the transformation of large institutions for people with disabilities and, above all, the upcoming establishment of a children’s ombudsman.

2024-06-05Defensoría del Pueblo: al cierre de mayo cifra de mujeres desaparecidas supera a la reportada en igual periodo de 2023
La Defensoría del Pueblo dio a conocer el reporte “Qué pasó con ellas” correspondiente al mes de mayo de 2024, en el que se revela un aumento de las cifras de alertas de mujeres desaparecidas respecto al mismo periodo del año anterior. En efecto, al cierre del quinto mes de este año puede evidenciarse un total de 2695 casos acumulados, lo que representa un aumento del 10 % en comparación al periodo comprendido entre enero y mayo de 2023, en que se reportaron 2445 alertas.

Los casos registrados se incrementaron en casi un 50 % en ambos periodos. La región Ayacucho pasó de reportar 16 quejas durante 2022 a 148, en 2023. Como parte de la campaña #AlColeSinBarreras se reitera a la ciudadanía que el proceso de matrícula escolar en colegios públicos es gratuito.

2024-05-22Ombud’s 2023/2024 annual report highlights fairness in times of disaster
The Ombud’s 2023/2024 Annual Report was released by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on 9 May 2024. In it, Ombud Colette Langlois highlighted the increased attention ombuds are devoting to fairness issues related to climate change and natural disasters. The Ombud also reported a 45% increase in the number of inquiries to her Office over the previous fiscal year.

The CCAC suggests the relevant departments pay more attention to the work of disseminating preliminary information and broadening the general public's knowledge in order to allow them to better understand and gain knowledge of the relevant legal regime about economic housing.

Toronto Ombudsman Kwame Addo says Toronto Hydro acted unfairly by holding a property owner responsible for approximately $20,000 worth of repairs to a hydro vault it never told him he owned. Ombudsman Addo launched the investigation after receiving a complaint from Mr. A., who purchased a unit in a Toronto plaza in 1980.

El síndic de Greuges, Ángel Luna, acompañado de la adjunta primera, Concha Bru, y del segundo, Carlos Castillo, ha presentado el 27 marzo de 2024 su Informe Anual 2023, en el que denuncia que las excusas de la Administración para no atender en un plazo razonable los derechos de la ciudadanía son “inaceptables”.
