Overcrowded reception centres with no possibility to practice physical distancing or follow hygienic measures are some of the main concerns the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) identifies in its latest migration quarterly bulletin. At the same time, closed borders make it difficult for refugees to reach safety in the EU and leave some people stranded at sea. Suspended asylum procedures leave many in limbo.

Today the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman publishes its first annual Ombudsman’s Casework Report. The Report shows the wide range of cases the organisation concluded in 2019. As well as serious complaints about the NHS in England, the report includes cases involving UK government departments and other public services.

Control Yuan investigation into seismic fortification of public buildings
Taiwan is located on the circum-Pacific earthquake zone, where thousands of earthquakes occur every year. To enhance the seismic resistance of public buildings, the Executive Yuan (EY) in June 2000 ratified a project to assess and fortify their seismic resistance; however the execution was less than ideal. The Control Yuan (CY) thus launched an investigation to protect the lives and property of citizens.
