L’Office de la Protection du Citoyen (OPC), Institution Nationale indépendante de promotion et de protection des Droits Humains, condamne l’assassinat des journalistes Amady John Wesley et Wilguens Louissaint de Radio Écoute FM et d’un media en ligne survenu dans l’après-midi du 5 janvier 2021 dans les périmètres de laboule 12, alors qu’ils s’apprêtaient à réaliser un reportage spécial sur la situation sécuritaire dans cette zone tombée sous le contrôle des bandits armés, sans foi ni loi.

Catherine De Bruecker est la première médiatrice de la Région bruxelloise
Depuis de nombreuses années, l’Etat fédéral, la Région wallonne, la Communauté française, la Communauté flamande, la Communauté germanophone, disposent de leur propre médiateur. Il aura fallu attendre 2 ans pour que les citoyens de la Région de Bruxelles disposent du même service à l’égard des administrations bruxelloises. Catherine De Bruecker, ex-médiatrice fédérale, a été élue pour diriger ce nouveau service de médiation.

Austrian Ministry for International Affairs grants IOI status as “international institution”
As of 1 January 2022, the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) holds a status as “International Institution” in accordance with the Austrian Act on Headquarter Locations (Amtssitzgesetz). With this new status, the IOI will be able to increase its presence as an independent, international organization, the voice of Ombudsman institutions around the world and the authoritative body on Ombudsman matters.

Report on Townsville’s Cleveland Youth Detention Centre released
The Cleveland Youth Detention Centre inspection report: Focus on separation due to staff shortages, prepared by the Inspector of Detention Services, was tabled by the Honourable Curtis Pitt MP, Speaker of the Queensland Parliament on Tuesday 27 August 2024. The report by Queensland Ombudsman, Mr Anthony Reilly makes 15 recommendations for improvement at the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre on issues including staffing levels, approval processes for separations and the provision of basic facilities in separation rooms and holding cells.

Case study: claims of unfair promotion practices in the armed forces of Malta
A Major in the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) lodged a complaint after he was not promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel despite meeting the eligibility criteria. He claimed the selection process for the promotion was flawed and that he suffered an injustice as a result. The investigation by the Parliamentary Ombudsman of Malta examined the selection process used for promotions from Major to Lieutenant Colonel within the AFM.

Convenio de Cooperación con el Instituto de Pensamiento y Políticas Públicas
El Subsecretario General a cargo del Defensor del Pueblo de la Nación, Juan José Böckel, firmó un Convenio de Cooperación Técnica con el Instituto de Pensamiento y Políticas Públicas, representado por su Presidenta, Ana Carolina Rameri, con el fin de potenciar la promoción, cultura, defensa y protección de los Derechos Humanos.
