Ombudsman community shares experiences on how to handle new challenges caused by Covid-19
On 24 November 2020, the State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel held an international Zoom Webinar under the auspices of the IOI on the topic of “Covid-19 and the Ombudsperson - Rising to the Challenge of a Pandemic”. The webinar brought together participants from 50 Ombudsman offices around the world to learn how a long-term crisis can still act as a platform for best practices and improvement.

Ombudsman submits special report on activity during coronavirus pandemic
On 8 September 2020, the State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel, Matanyahu Englman, presented to the parliament (Knesset) a special report on its activity during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Reference to the report will be made by Dr. Esther Ben-Haim, Head of the Office of the Ombudsman, during a webinar on the theme "Covid-19 and the Ombudsperson - Rising to the Challenge of a Pandemic", which will take place on 24 November 2020.

CDNS (National Savings) digitized all saving centers under Ombudsman’s instructions
The Federal Ombudsman Syed Tahir Shahbaz by taking cognizance of the difficulties of senior citizens and widows has directed Director General National Savings (CDNS) to facilitate senior citizens, widows and pensioners as per banking standards. He was chairing a high level meeting to review the progress on CDNS Reforms Report issued by the Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat(WMS).

Dudley council to refund care home fees following Ombudsman investigation
Dudley council has agreed to refund care home top-up fees for concerned families whose relatives were not offered an affordable placement, because of a Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman investigation. The agreement has come following a complaint from a man about care home top-up fees he paid for his mother’s care.

Annual Report – a strong year in a time of crisis
Chief Ombudsman Peter Boshier says holding government to account is never more important than in a time of crisis. Mr Boshier says the highlight of the year ending 30 June 2020 was managing a busy, and expanding, programme of work, while providing independent oversight of the impact of government actions to combat COVID-19.

Parliamentary Ombudsman nominates new Secretary General
Parliamentary Ombudsman Petri Jääskeläinen has nominated Committee Counsel Matti Marttunen, Doctor of Laws and Master of Laws trained on the bench, as Secretary General of the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman. Marttunen will take office on 1 March 2021.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused an “educational crisis” and children are one of the most vulnerable groups due to the measures taken to curb and eliminate the epidemic. On the occasion of World Children's Day, the Human Rights Ombudsman has prepared a project for children and young people entitled "If you see injustice, use justice!"

Police stops in Europe: everyone has a right to equal treatment
A new paper by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) reveals the differences between people’s experiences with police stops. It shows that Black people, Asians and Roma are still more likely to be stopped and searched by police, which also affects their trust in policing. FRA will continue providing EU countries with data and guidance to support them in ensuring their policing practices respect people’s fundamental rights.
