The Office of the Ombudsperson for Children invites Ombudsman and Mediator Institutions affiliated with the International Ombudsman Institute to participate in a 2-day Workshop on the theme “The role of Ombudsman and Mediators in monitoring the situation of children in conflict with the law and deprived of their liberty” to be held in the Republic of Mauritius on 5 and 6 September 2023. Peer review of the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman was held in Coventry
A peer review of the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman (UK) was held in Coventry (UK), in November 2023, by a specially designated panel led by the Ombudsman of Greece and IOI Regional President (Europe) Andreas Pottakis. Former Ombudsman of Ireland and former President of the IOI, Peter Tyndall, Professor of socio-legal studies at the University of Glasgow, Chris Gill, and Kersten England, former Chief Executive of Bradford City Council and of York City Council, were the other three members of the peer review panel.

Ombudsman completes investigation on regulations by the Food and Environment Hygiene Department
On 14 December 2023, the Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, announced the completion of a direct investigation into the regulation by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (“FEHD”) over the sale of food in hot/cold holding and non-prepackaged beverages by means of vending machines, and made ten recommendations for improvement to FEHD.

Ombudsman saves Toronto man $20,000 in Hydro dispute
Toronto Ombudsman Kwame Addo says Toronto Hydro acted unfairly by holding a property owner responsible for approximately $20,000 worth of repairs to a hydro vault it never told him he owned. Ombudsman Addo launched the investigation after receiving a complaint from Mr. A., who purchased a unit in a Toronto plaza in 1980.
