Celebration of the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman in Angola
On April 22 and 23, 2025, the Central Ceremony and the International Conference marking the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman of the Republic of Angola took place at the Auditorium of the Palace of Justice in Luanda, under the theme: “Ombudsman: 20 Years Serving Citizens and the Democratic Rule of Law”, as part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence. The main objective was to commemorate both the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence and the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman, and to reflect on the role of the Ombudsman in a democratic state through experience-sharing with national and international public and private entities.

Defensoría del Pueblo reporta más de 680 casos de presunta tortura y malos tratos en los ultimos dos años
Con ocasión de conmemorarse el Día Internacional en Apoyo de las Víctimas de la Tortura, el 26 de junio, la Defensoría del Pueblo dio a conocer el primer Reporte de casos de presunta tortura y otros tratos o penas crueles, inhumanos o degradantes conocidos por el Mecanismo Nacional de Prevención de la Tortura, en el que se da cuenta de un total de 687 casos registrados por las diversas oficinas de la Defensoría del Pueblo, entre 2021 y el primer trimestre de 2023.

Former Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman honoured by King
Former Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman Michael King has been awarded a CBE in His Majesty the King’s Birthday Honours, announced 19 June 2023. Mr King served as the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman from 2017 to March 2023, having previously been the organisation’s Chief Executive and serving more than 30 years in the public sector including as a trading standards officer.
