The Ombudsman's Office issued a written request for a clarification regarding a complaint in which a man's civil status has been disposed, and therefore he is no longer registered in the civil registry and according to his identity card, counts as an immigrant who is officially ineligible to apply for Thai citizenship.

Ombudsman’s Quarterly Review
The Chief Ombudsman, Peter Boshier, was in March elected as Second Vice President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Mr Boshier has served on the board of the IOI, a global organisation made up of more than 200 independent ombudsman institutions from more than 100 countries, since 2016. The Ombudsman New Zealand has been a part of the IOI since its inception in 1978.

Hong Kong Ombudsman announces results of investigation into effectiveness of rodent prevention by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department
The Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, today (26 May) announced the completion of a direct investigation into the effectiveness of rodent prevention and control by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department ("FEHD"), identifying three areas for improvement in the FEHD’s work on rodent surveillance, rodent prevention and disinfestation, and application of rodent-related complaint data.

The Síndic de Greuges de Catalunya (Catalan Ombudsman) has a new incumbent, Ms. Esther Giménez-Salinas i Colomer. Ms. Giménez-Salinas was elected by the Catalan Parliament on 30 June and took office on 14 July 2022.

The Control Yuan (CY) Transportation and Procurement Affairs Committee has reviewed and approved an investigation report pointing out that traffic accidents have long been the leading cause of fatal injuries among children in Taiwan. The population of children in Taiwan has experienced negative growth for two consecutive years.

Record number of complaints about public services to Ombudsman
Complaints to the Ombudsman about public services, such as those provided by government departments, local authorities and the HSE, reached a record high in 2021. Recently-appointed Ombudsman Ger Deering said that 4,004 complaints were received by his Office - a 17% increase on 2020, and the highest ever in the 38-year history of the Ombudsman.

Rafael Ribó concludes his mandate as Catalan ombudsman
Rafael Ribó was elected síndic for the first time in July 2004 and was re-elected in 2010. Ribó has been a member of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) since 2006, holding various positions.

Federal Ombudsman publishes Summary of Annual Report 2021
The Federal Ombudsman was established on 3 January 1997. 25 years on, more and more people are calling on them for help. In 2021, they opened 8,202 new files. That is a 9 % increase compared to 2020 and a 20 % increase compared to 2019. That rise was due to the corona crisis which continues to take its toll on the relationship between citizens and the public administrations.
