AFRICA | African Ombudsman Today – Issue 14

Issue 14 of the “African Ombudsman Today”, the newsletter of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), is now available in English and will be published in its French version soon.

The newsletter puts a special focus on Africa Day, the day to commemorate the creation of the African Union’s forerunner, the Organisation of African Unity, which was founded 57 years ago, with a view to establish and facilitate strong relationships between independent African States.

The newsletter reports on feedback and efforts from different countries to fight COVID-19, electoral observations carried out by the Ombudsman of Burundi in Egypt, a memorandum of understanding signed between the Ombudsman institutions of Angola and Cape Verde, as well as research on the matter of “Ombudsman and the Challenges of Enforceable Recommendations”.

Finally, the newsletter pays tribute to colleagues who passed away, such as former IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter and former Ombudsman of Sénégal, Alioune Cissé, and welcomes Ombudsman who took office in the period under review.
