Tabled in Parliament on 18 March 2026, a new investigation report by the Victorian Ombudsman "Outsourcing small claims handling: How councils manage fairness and responsibility" looked into local councils' use of small claims handlers to manage claims for injury or property damage that fall below the excess in their insurance policy.

2026-03-13Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes follow-up report on support for unpaid carers
On 4 March 2026, the Office of the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales published ‘Are we caring for our carers? Revisited’, a follow-up to their 2024 Own Initiative investigation into how Welsh local authorities identify, assess and support unpaid carers. The original investigation examined whether 4 local authorities were meeting their statutory duties under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. While examples of good practice were identified, it was found that only a small proportion of carers received assessments of their needs, and many were unaware of their rights or the support available.

2026-05-07Working visit of the Veterans Ombudsman to NATO and the EU
From 21 to 23 April 2026, the Veterans' Ombudsman of the Netherlands, Reinier van Zutphen, the Norwegian Parliamentary Ombudsman for the Armed Forces, Roald Linaker, and the German Parliamentary Commissioner for the Armed Forces, Henning Otte, met in Brussels for a two day meeting with NATO and the EU.

The Ombudsman of Aruba, Ms. Jurima Bryson LL.M. has published the report “Het Luisterend Oog, In kader brengen van instellingen” (Dutch for “The Listening Eye”) on March 9th, 2026. In this report 564 institutions on Aruba, that fall under the National Ombudsman Ordinance, have been identified.

The Central Administrative Appeals Commission under the ACRC launched a service on 6 March 2026 that delivers written decisions of administrative appeals in audio format. Since it can be used by all 90 administrative appeal agencies operating within the Online Administrative Appeals System, it is expected to significantly enhance convenience for citizens filing administrative appeals.

On 20 March 2026, the Colourful as a Butterfly event took place in Krško to mark World Down Syndrome Day. The Human Rights Ombudswoman, Dr Simona Drenik Bavdek, addressed those present. She emphasised that this day provides an opportunity to reflect on the fundamental connectedness between people. She highlighted the importance of meeting and getting to know one another in order to build relationships, as this enables an understanding of an individual’s needs and creates space for support, assistance, and shared well-being.
