The Chancellor’s task is to make sure that legislation in Estonia is in conformity with the Constitution and that the fundamental rights and liberties of people in Estonia are protected. Besides constitutional review and ombudsman functions, the Chancellor also fulfils the role of national preventive mechanism for ill-treatment and ombudsman for children. Once a year, the Chancellor presents an annual report of his or her activities to the Riigikogu.

Control Yuan President Chang Po-ya welcomed all 11 new CY members at a pre-inauguration meeting held January 18, 2018, two days after the nominees were approved by the Legislative Yuan. Les dossiers peuvent être déposés jusqu’au 1er février 2019. L’association SPARADRAP œuvre depuis 25 ans pour « aider les enfants à avoir moins peur et moins mal pendant les soins et à l'hôpital ».

La valedora do pobo, Milagros Otero Parga, celebró ayer en Valdoviño una nueva jornada de atención a la ciudadanía. Ante una veintena de personas congregadas en el salón de plenos del Ayuntamiento de Valdoviño, explicó sus funciones y los mecanismos para presentar una queja en la institución. Los asistentes tomaron la palabra para expresarle los problemas concretos que les afectaban y que se materializarán en quejas que hoy mismo inician su tramitación.

The Ombudsman considered a complaint filed by a group of thirty Marketplace Vendors founded and ruled that the standards of Reason, Active and adequate information provision, and Reasonableness and proportionality have been violated. The vendors had informed the Ombudsman that they were negatively affected by the decision of the Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunication (Minister TEATT) to breakdown and remove all Kiosks in Philipsburg.

Elmira Suleymanova, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) received Onno Kervers, Ambasador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Azerbaijan. The Commissioner gave information about the establishment of the Ombudsman Office in Azerbaijan and informed the Ambassador about the Twinning Project to “Strengthening the capacities of the Commissioner for Human Rights”, which lasted for the past 24 months.

La Procuración Penitenciaria de la Nación (PPN) efectuó una recomendación a fin de que las personas que hayan cumplido con la totalidad de su condena tengan acceso a un trabajo en igualdad de condiciones. El Ministerio de Trabajo, Empleo y Seguridad Social, cumplió con la recomendación de la PPN, garantizando así el derecho a quienes hayan cumplido la totalidad de su condena, ya que las ofertas de empleo no podrán contener restricciones debido a antecedentes penales.

Commencement of the Ombudsman Act 2017
The new Ombudsman Act 2017 commenced on 31 January 2018. The coming into effect of this new Act means that any person who is unhappy about how any government office deals with them, can complain to the Ombudsman. Furthermore, the Ombudsman is empowered by this new Act to not only investigate appropriate complaints that it received but can also initiate investigations on its own from information received from any other source including the media.
