    The total number of complaints delivered in 2017 to the Ombudsman was 8,191. People increasingly turn to the Ombudsman's Office with their problems in the sphere of social security and also number of complaints concerning work and employment increased by 39 percent.

    Irish Ombudsman welcomes progress on implementing Magdalen report recommendations

    IOI President and Irish Ombudsman Peter Tyndall welcomed the Minister for Justice and Equality’s announcement that it will move forward on implementing the recommendations following the investigation into how the Department of Justice and Equality administered the Magdalen Restorative Justice scheme. The report of his investigation, Opportunity Lost, was critical of how the Department administered the scheme, including how some women who worked in the Magdalen laundries have been wrongly refused access to the scheme.

    Victorian Ombudsman tabled report into Wodonga City Council’s overcharged waste management levy

    Wodonga Council collected at least $18 million in extra revenue from its waste management levy over the past decade, using the surplus to fund other council services, the Ombudsman has found. Tabling her Investigation into Wodonga City Council’s overcharging of a waste management levy in the Victorian Parliament today, Ombudsman Deborah Glass said about 70 per cent of the revenue raised through the charge had been spent on waste-related services. Nearly a third had been spent on other council services, such as the maintenance of parks, gardens and other council activities.

    AOMA presents 9th edition of African Ombudsman Today

    The African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA) published the 9th edition of the AOMAS Newsletter "African Ombudsman Today". It introduces Ombudsmen and their institutions in Africa and reports on recent events. Additionally, it also contains an update on the progress made on the Africa Ombudsman Study which is a collaboration between the IOI and AORC.

    Complaints to Toronto Ombudsman up in 2017

    City of Toronto Ombudsman Susan Opler released the institution's 2017 Annual Report. She says that in 2017, her office handled nearly 1650 complaints about City services, up 7% from the year before. Poor communication continues to be a factor in many complaints her office receives. Ombudsman Toronto published nine reports in 2017, making 65 recommendations that improved fairness in how the City of Toronto serves people.

    South Korean Gender Equality and Family Committee delegation visits Control Yuan

    A delegation of the South Korean National Assembly's Committee for Gender Equality and Family visited the Control Yuan on March 30. The two sides engaged in open and friendly exchanges of views on a range of topics, including women’s political participation as well as the supervision of government. The visiting dignitaries praised the Control Yuan’s balanced gender ratio after President Chang explained that 14 of the CY’s 29 members, half of its directors and more than half of its employees are female.

Este estudio tiene como objetivo generar un diagnóstico sobre los alcances y el grado de cumplimiento de los Instrumentos de Posicionamiento emitidos por la Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos (CNDH) en el tema de niñas, niños y adolescentes.

    Victorian Ombudsman tells Council to ease up on treatment of vulnerable people over parking fines

    Maribyrnong City Council has treated disadvantaged people harshly by refusing to cancel parking fines in cases where exceptional circumstances justified cancellation, the Victorian Ombudsman has found. Ombudsman Deborah Glass said the council’s practices were lacking in fairness and discretion when compared with five other metropolitan councils.

    40th Anniversary celebrations start with side event at UN headquarters in New York

    On 30 April 2018 the IOI organized a side event at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York to mark the 40th anniversary of its establishment in 1978. The event provided a platform for exchange between the United Nations and the Ombudsman community, as well as the perfect setting for the launch of the IOI’s most recent publication on “A Mission to Justice – The International Ombudsman Institute 1978-2018”.

    Ombudsman welcomes Minister’s announcement of €245,000 compensation for Donegal family

    Irish Ombudsman Peter Tyndall today welcomed Minister Michael Creed’s announcement that he will implement an Ombudsman recommendation that a Donegal family receive compensation of €245,570.  The announcement follows an initial refusal in 2009 by the then Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to implement the recommendation.

    Ce lundi 7 mai, le Collège de Médiateurs Pensions Jean Marie Hannesse et Tony Van der Steen ont presenté le rapport annuel d'activité de l'institution en conférence de presse. La structure de ce rapport comprend quatre parties: sur le thème des différents rôles de l'Ombudsman, les données statistiques, le rôle préventif de l'Ombudsman et la liste des adresses de leur partenaires principaux.
