New GANHRI Chairperson vows to defend national human rights institutions
Dr Freddy Carrión Intriago, Ombudsman of Ecuador, was elected to the role by GANHRI members through an online voting procedure that concluded on 27 October 2020. This election follows the end of Carlos Alfonso Negret Mosquera’s term as Ombudsman of Colombia and as former Chairperson of GANHRI since March 2019.

Malawi President assents to Ombudsman Amendment Bill
The President of the Republic of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, has assented to the Ombudsman Amendment Bill, effective 1 February 2024. Ombudsman Grace Malera hailed the Malawi Leader for signing the Bill into law which among other things provides clarity on the broadened mandate of the Office in terms of which organs of government can be investigated.

Defensoría del Pueblo reporta aumento significativo de quejas por cobros indebidos y condicionamiento de matrícula escolar entre 2022 y 2023
Los casos registrados se incrementaron en casi un 50 % en ambos periodos. La región Ayacucho pasó de reportar 16 quejas durante 2022 a 148, en 2023. Como parte de la campaña #AlColeSinBarreras se reitera a la ciudadanía que el proceso de matrícula escolar en colegios públicos es gratuito.

Mardi 30 janvier 2024, Claire Hédon, était à Montpellier pour conclure une nouvelle convention de partenariat avec la région Occitanie pour le programme des Jeunes ambassadeurs des droits et de l’égalité (JADE). Le programme JADE est le programme éducatif du Défenseur des droits qui sensibilise les enfants et les jeunes à leurs droits dès le plus jeune âge.

Nuevo edificio de la Defensoría del Pueblo en Rosario
El defensor del Pueblo de la provincia de Santa Fe, Raúl Lamberto, el gobernador de la provincia, Omar Perotti, y el intendente de Rosario, Pablo Javkin, inauguraron este jueves en Rosario un nuevo edificio de la Defensoría del Pueblo. La propiedad de 360 metros cuadrados está ubicada en calle Paraguay 756 y fue adquirida y refuncionalizada con fondos propios de la institución. Le permitirá brindar una atención de mayor calidad y mayor confort a la ciudadanía.
