2021-04-01The Seimas Ombudsman‘s Office has Submitted the Activity Report of the year 2020
The Seimas Ombudsman’s Office – the National Human Rights Institution – has submitted its Activity Report of 2020 to the Seimas highlighting human rights concerns of the last year. The COVID-19 pandemic, which shook the world in 2020, also impacted the activities of the Seimas Ombudsman, who repeatedly noted that during the pandemic it was especially important to ensure that residents of care homes and convicts had the opportunity to keep in touch with their family members. In other cases, when it was established that certain rights of individuals were violated due to the conditions of the pandemic, own-initiative investigations were started.

2024-05-29PCC embarks on nationwide intensive training for staff in all its 36 state offices
In a bid to enhance staff capabilities and align with international best practices, the Public Complaints Commission has commenced a nationwide training program for all its staff nationwide. The training, which began on the 13th of May, 2024, saw enthusiastic participation from employees at levels 8 to 15, with staff from all 36 states converging at their respective state offices.

2019-10-01New Comissioner for Fundamental Rights takes office
Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary Ákos Kozma – who took office this Thursday – would like to work particularly on solving the problems of people turning to the Ombudsman and protecting the rights of children and vulnerable groups. In his interview given to the Hungarian News Agency he also emphasized that he wishes to preserve the independent and non-political nature of the ombudsman institution.

2020-07-02New Ombudsman of the City of Cape Town took office
On 1 June 2020 Mr Vusumzi Magwebu took office as the new Ombudsman of the City of Cape Town. He has vast experience in investigations from both private and public sectors. He is a former prosecutor and was also a senior investigator with the office of the Public Protector, South Africa.

On 1 April 2019 Ms Winnie Chiu Wai-yin has taken office as the new Ombudsman of Hong Kong. Ms Chiu follows former Hong Kong Ombudsman Connie Lau, who completed her term on 31 March 2019.

At the 28th Presentation Ceremony of the Ombudsman’s Awards on 18 November 2025, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, presented the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for Public Organisations to the Housing Department, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, and the Correctional Services Department, respectively. He also honoured the Transport Department with the Award on Mediation, the Drainage Services Department with the Information Technology Application and Creativity Award, and the Digital Policy Office with the Customer Services Award. Additionally, 10 teams were recognised with the Team Awards, and 80 public officers received the Individual Awards.
