Tabled in Parliament on 18 March 2026, a new investigation report by the Victorian Ombudsman "Outsourcing small claims handling: How councils manage fairness and responsibility" looked into local councils' use of small claims handlers to manage claims for injury or property damage that fall below the excess in their insurance policy.

2026-03-06Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva insists on equal treatment in admission to municipal nurseries and kindergartens
The reason for this is dozens of complaints from parents about the proposed amendments to the Ordinance on the Admission of Children to Municipal Nurseries and Kindergartens. The Ombudsman expresses concern about the repeal of the additional point under General Criterion 5 for children who have attended a municipal stand-alone nursery or a private nursery registered with the Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate.

2026-03-13Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes follow-up report on support for unpaid carers
On 4 March 2026, the Office of the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales published ‘Are we caring for our carers? Revisited’, a follow-up to their 2024 Own Initiative investigation into how Welsh local authorities identify, assess and support unpaid carers. The original investigation examined whether 4 local authorities were meeting their statutory duties under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. While examples of good practice were identified, it was found that only a small proportion of carers received assessments of their needs, and many were unaware of their rights or the support available.

On 20 March 2026, the Colourful as a Butterfly event took place in Krško to mark World Down Syndrome Day. The Human Rights Ombudswoman, Dr Simona Drenik Bavdek, addressed those present. She emphasised that this day provides an opportunity to reflect on the fundamental connectedness between people. She highlighted the importance of meeting and getting to know one another in order to build relationships, as this enables an understanding of an individual’s needs and creates space for support, assistance, and shared well-being.
