ANGOLA | The New Ombudsman took office

The new Ombudsman of Angola, João Manuel Francisco, was elected on 21 May 2026 and took office on 24 June of the same year for a five-year term.

With a degree in Law and a Master’s in Legal and Political Sciences, João Manuel Francisco brings with him extensive academic and governance experience, having served as Inspector-General of the State Administration and published several works, notably “International Justice and Human Rights in the Angolan Constitution of 2010”.

The new Ombudsman’s mission is to ensure that human dignity is at the heart of public action, recognising every citizen as a holder of rights, deserving of respect, consideration and protection.
