The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) has announced the subject of its latest Own Initiative investigation.
The investigation is looking into how Northern Ireland's health trusts provide care to people with a learning disability.
The system-wide investigation will examine how trusts record information about a person's learning disability and how the information is used to provide them with
appropriate care. It will also look at how they are cared for when they are admitted to hospital unexpectedly, and how care plans and other assessment tools are used to meet their individual needs.
The final report will be presented to the Northern Ireland Assembly.
NIPSO has also produced a new Case Digest on the theme of healthcare provision to people with a learning disability. The publication highlights cases investigated by NIPSO, some of which had a significant impact on the lives of those affected.
