PAKISTAN | Meeting on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of the AOA

In line with directions of the 26th Meeting of the Board of Directors and the 18th Meeting of the General Assembly held on 9 September, 2025, the Sindh Provincial Ombudsman’s Secretariat organized an event on 16 April 2026 to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) at its provincial headquarters in Karachi.

Brand Ambassadors from leading universities of Karachi including IBA, SZABIST, Salim Habib University and Sindh Madresattul Islam were invited to attend the event.

Hon’ble Ombudsman Sindh Sohail Rajput shared his views on the occasion highlighting the history of Ombudsman institution besides laying accent on AOA’s achievements over a period spanning over three decades.  The Ombudsman especially reflected on AOA’s role in promoting good governance and institutional accountability besides highlighting its collaborative efforts on anti-corruption and protection of citizen rights.

Elaborating further, the Ombudsman dwelt on significance of the AOA institution on issues relating to public administration ensuring that state institutions are more accountable and directly supportive of the United Nations Sustainable Goals (SDGs). Moreover, he spoke about AOA’s commendable record for successfully organizing 17 General Assembly meetings, demonstrating stability and commitment to its objectives.

Another feather in AOA’s cap, the Ombudsman apprised the participants, is the establishment of Resource Centre in Islamabad which provides a platform for robust mechanism for information exchange. The Ombudsman also took pride in stating that its an honor for our Federal Ombudsman to get re-elected as President of the AOA on 11 September 2023 which reflects continued and effective leadership of Pakistan in strengthening organization’s role in promoting rule of law and administrative justice.

The two Brand Ambassadors, Mohd Faiz and Afifa Khalid, also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Ambassador R Rafiuzzaman Siddiqui welcoming the guests in his succinct remarks highlighted AOA’s brief history and stated that AOA serves as an important platform for advancing accountability, justice and institutional development through Ombudsman Institutions across Asia.

The event concluded with vibrant Q & A session. Refreshments were served during the session.

Nonetheless, availing the opportunity of the event, the Ombudsman congratulated the new Federal Ombudsman, Hon’ble Naveed Kamran Baloch on assumption of his office last month concomitantly expressing hope that under his dynamic leadership, the Ombudsman fraternity in Pakistan would grow from strength to strength.
