THAILAND | Appointment of the new Thai Ombudsman

On 7 November 2021, the Royal Proclamation announced the appointment of Mr. Songsak Saicheua as the Ombudsman of Thailand in replacement of Mr. Boon Tapanadul who vacated his seat. 

Mr. Songsak Saicheua will serve a seven-year term from the date of appointment according to section 17 of the Organic Act on Ombudsmen B.E. 2560 (2017) .

Mr. Songsak Saicheua graduated his undergraduate degree in Economics from Bangkok and post-graduate degree in Industrial Location and Development from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium.

He served in high ranking positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Deputy Director-General and Director-General of the Department of the American and South Pacific. 

He is the former Ambassador to Austria, Slovak Republic and Slovenia and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organisations in Vienna (2017-2018), Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) of the United Nations in Vienna, Vice President of Programme and Budget Committee of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), and Vice President of the Assembly of the Parties of IACA. 

His specialised experience in public administration and international organisations brought him to a broad understanding of global standard of public service delivery as well as models and frameworks on Ombudsman and human rights.
